Turn the artist’s eye inward.
The things we perceive, sense and process—micro to macro—happen through the material of the body.
Hey, I know all you visual artists out there might be a lil’ freaked out about the idea of “Movement”… but listen, you are missing out on some deep stuff, my peeps!
Like it or not, visual artists have a body, too— more than how you use it to build, craft, and create.
The body is the channel for creative insight. If you find relief, revelation, meaning or beauty through the practice of art-making, then you know this intuitively.
The body is the archive of all of your lived experiences. The things we perceive, sense and process—micro to macro—happen through the material of the body. We have an incredible archive, even closer than our own fingertips.
This 3.5-hour workshop turns the artist’s eye inward. Janna guides sensing and perception activities of each area of the body: the Head, the Heart, and the Guts. (If you are still worried about “Movement,” Take breath, look out the window and come back….Ok?) These sensing activities are everyday-level movement, slowed down, and on your own. There is no pressure or expectation on how you engage.
Using provided materials, or your preferred materials, participants will respond to their experiences by creating a visual artifact, and engage in reflective dialogue with others on what they discovered.
Artists will emerge from this session with 3-4 “inner-eye” portraits, and skills to utilize in the studio.
